Next week sees the UK release of the highly-anticipated Quentin Tarantino film The Hateful Eight. While the big stars such as Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell will capture much of the press attention around the movie, true movie buffs will recognise the musical contribution of the legendary soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone. With 61 awards to his name and as many nominations, Hollywood is more than familiar with his work. In 2007, this was recognised with an Honorary Academy Award for magnificent contribution to the art of film and music.
This isn’t the first time Morricone’s work has been used by Tarantino though, with his scores setting up scenes perfectly in Django Unchained, Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds. Other great films he has provided the music for include: Once Upon a Time in America; The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; and the Untouchables.
