One moment …

Fermanagh for activity breaks

June 6, 2016

This weekend, a lot of us (myself included!) made the most of the awesome sunshine and heat and explored a little bit of what Northern Ireland has to offer! While no doubt, the return to work today was a tough one, it’s amazing what a short couple of days of summer weather can do for showcasing what there is to do in Northern Ireland in its best light. If this has whetted your appetite for exploring further during some summer leave, then leave the big cities and head to Fermanagh for your next activity break!

Around an hour and a half drive from Belfast city centre, Fermanagh provides a great retreat for those wanting to get amongst the best of Northern Ireland’s natural sights. Iconic for its lakelands, this is an ideal location for those who like to be in water, whether just to chill on a boat, do some fishing, or stay active with kayaking or canoeing! For those who like to check out the local culture, there are many unique experiences to be had and a number of National Trust properties to explore. The locals will also help to make any activity break here one to remember, with Fermanagh having been voted the friendliest county in the UK just last month!

For those who like biking, there are plenty of options in Co. Fermanagh. Whether you like to go off-road and immerse yourself in nature, or explore scenic countryside villages and historic sights with road routes, you’ll find something to your taste here. Our family multi activity holiday gives you the best of both worlds with a bike tour to the bogland lakes and lost castles. So while you’ll stay active by bike, you’ll also get to see those classic historic landscapes that the island of Ireland is famous for!

There’s plenty of water in County Fermanagh so you’ll have a truly unique way to explore the area. For those looking to stay in the city of Enniskillen, you can take a boat tour along the Lough Erne. This will also stop off at Devenish Island where there are ruins dating back to the 12th century. Alternatively, you can take things at your own pace with our couple’s activity retreat. During this, you’ll admire the spectacular views from a one-man pedal kayak on Lough Erne, where you can check out the many islands and sandy bays. By booking with ActivityBreaks.com, you’ll also get to have afternoon tea on a secluded island to add those romantic touches to your next activity break!

The major tourist attraction in the area is no doubt the Marble Arch Caves global geopark. While the land around the sight is beautiful in itself, inside is where you’ll find a truly magical experience. For under £10 per person, you’ll spend over an hour underground on a guided tour through the show cave. This includes travelling by boat (like something out of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory!) and foot through this beautifully-lit spectacle. Alternatively, for art-lovers, why not visit the Belleek Visitors Centre? The famous china has been manufactured here since 1857 and you can get a tour of the production for as little as £4.

So why travel far for your next activity break when there’s so much to do in beautiful County Fermanagh? If you’re interested in any of our packages, then get in touch today to have a holiday to look forward to as we make the most of the summer weather!
