If you’re anything like me, then you’ll enjoy a cocktail or two. Or three. And you’ll use anything as an excuse to order one. Well, what’s a better excuse than enjoying a cocktail on your next spa break in Europe? Imagine, relaxing on the terrace, post spa treatment and cocktail in-hand. Bliss! To be honest, I was going to write this blog about something else, but then the mention of cocktails started a chat in the office, and we started listing our favourite cocktails. What do you think of the list below?
This is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a no-nonsense kind of cocktail. It’s a mix of whiskey, sugar and bitters, normally served with a slice of fruit and an ice-cube in a short glass. It’s one of the few cocktails that has a glass named after it! It’ll definitely get your taste-buds tingling! It wouldn’t be out of place in a Jazz Lounge, maybe best suited to a winter spa escape?
Made from white rum, sugar, lime juice, sparkling water and mint, this cocktail is truly refreshing. I can imagine sipping it from the pool side – actually I have sipped it from the pool side. Served on the rocks with a spring of mint, it really is a summer drink, perfect for invigorating you after a spa treatment.
This is one of the simplest cocktails we have on the list. Simply put, it’s just vodka, apple juice and apple liquer. The liquer giving it the sweet taste and as it’s served straight up, this cocktail can be dangerous as you can’t taste the alcohol. Served in the classic martini class, this cocktail will make you feel classy!
Long Island Iced Tea
Trust the longest in the office to choose this one! Made with tequila, vodka, light rum, triple sec, gin and cola, this drink is definitely the one if you want to get drunk. To be fair, this can be a really refreshing drink if it’s done right. The tequila definitely gives it a kick and this cocktail has a sort of part feel to it!
Dark and Stormy
Another warm and soothing cocktail, the dark and stormy is a combination of ginger beer, bitters and dark rum. Served on the rocks in a tall glass, this is a pretty simple cocktail. If you like ginger beer then you’ll love this!
A delicate combination of light rum, dark rum, passion fruit, orange juice and grenadine, this cocktail is most suited to those with a sweet tooth. The grenadine gives this a distinct summery taste. It definitely wouldn’t look out of place on a summer activity break.
This is my personal choice of cocktail… and for me it has summer all over it. Made with gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and Crème de Mure. It’s super simple to make and balances sweet with sour. I would love nothing better than to enjoy a spa holiday with a few of these nearby!
P.S. Although all these cocktails are super yummy, they should be enjoyed in moderation.
