Bansko

Bansko (936m) is located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria. In the last few years the resort has enjoyed a great deal of investment, building new hotels and resort facilities, making it Bulgaria’s top ski resort. The town enjoys mild winters and a very good snow record and offers more than 70km of mainly north facing marked ski runs from 1100m to 2560m (6 blue, 11 red, 2 black), with 24 lifts (6 fast chair lifts, 1 gondola; 7 drags and 10 baby drags). There are also 9km of cross country tracks and a snowpark with half pipe.

The two main ski-centers – Chalin Valog (1100-1600m) and Shiligarnika (1700-2500m) are situated approximately 10 km away from the town and are accessible by the Gondola station on the outskirts of Bansko (which can be reached by the hotel shuttle bus). It is possible to return by Gondola or ski back down along a long blue run to the town, the last 7km of the slope is floodlit.

The resort offers good skiing for beginners and intermediates, with a good nursery slope and mainly blue and red runs. For more advanced skiers some good off-piste riding is available but local knowledge is essential so go with a guide. In addition to on-piste skiing, advanced skiers and snowboarders can head to the fun park in the “Platoto” area.
Bansko also offers great childcare facilities with a 'non-skiing kindergarten' located near the bottom of the Gondola Lift. Children enjoy games and activities whilst supervised by fully qualified minders.

Après ski

Bansko offers great Apres Ski with over 100 'Mehanas' to choose from. Mehanas are friendly taverna style restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian cuisine and drinks, often with roaring log fires and live music and entertainment. There are a few après ski bars around the gondola station in the town and bars and nightclubs are open until the early hours. There are also a number of shops and good value restaurants around the pretty town centre.

Other Activities in Bansko include: ice-skating, swimming, bowling, snow shoe walking, cross country skiing, snow mobiling and ice fishing.

Daily Excursions
