Copenhagen

A popular tourist attraction right in the centre of the city is Tivoli Gardens. Open year-round, this is a must-see on any city break. With beautiful scenery, old buildings and of course some of the most thrilling rides in Europe at the amusement park, there really is something for all ages and tastes. It could be seen as a small village within a city as there are a wide range of restaurants within the park and concerts and theatre shows take centre-stage on various dates throughout the year.

Probably the most famous sight in the city is the Little Mermaid statue at Langelinje Pier. A gift to the city from world-known brewer Carl Jacobsen (founder of the Carlsberg beer!), it is inspired by another famous face from the city. Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale captivated the brewer when he went to see the story performed as a ballet at the Royal Theatre. Now over 100 years old, this is something you can easily take in and has been seen by almost everybody visiting the city in this time period!

Speaking of Carl Jacobsen, beer-drinkers will enjoy Visit Carlsberg. Located on the site of the first Carlsberg brewery almost 200 years ago, this new visitor centre takes you through the history of the brewery, and more importantly allows you to sample the beer at the end!

Whatever time of year you go, we’d recommend taking a rain coat. While the summer months might offer the highest temperatures (around 17°C average in July), they also experience the most rainfall. Don’t let this put you off though, as Copenhagen offers plenty of indoor museums and historical sights to take in if the weather does take a turn for the worst during your Copenhagen city break!
