Discover the High Tatras mountains on this short hiking break in Slovakia. Stay at the beautiful Belianska Chata lodge where you will enjoy breakfast and dinner with the other members of the group (maximum 16 people). Your local guide will take you on some fantastic hikes around the area so you can enjoy the beautiful, untouched scenery. You will cover around 15 km per day so make sure you have appropriate footwear! This is a fantastic short break for those who don't have much time to spare

Itinerary

Thursday
Arrive at Krakow airport and travel to your mountain cabin in the village of Ždiar (please see essential info above regarding flight times). Join the group for dinner and find out more about the next few days.

Friday
Take the cable car part way up Lomnica Peak (the second highest mountain in Slovenia), hike to the summit then descend through the valley to Green Lake. Lunch at a lakeside hut then continue on through a dwarf pine forest to White Lake. Optional visit to a thermal pool in the evening.
Walking: 18km; 535m ascent

Saturday
Hike to the stunning Velicka Valley. Enjoy lunch next to a waterfall then continue along the Tatranska Magistrala trail before descending along a mountain stream.
Walking: 16km; 975m ascent

Sunday
Pack up and head to Strbske Lake from where you will take an easy hike and can enjoy the fantastic scenery on the way to Popradske Lake. Head back to Strbske Lake and have lunch at a lakeside restaurant, followed by a 2 hour drive to the airport (see essential info above)
Walking: 12km; 470m ascent

•Sturdy, broken-in hiking shoes or boots
•Rain/windproof jacket
•Lightweight, breathable hiking shirts and trousers
•Warm jacket or sweater
•Water bottle
•Small rucksack for carrying personal items
•Swimsuit and towel
•Sun protection (hat, sunglasses and sunblock)
•Trekking poles (optional but recommended)

The village of Ždiar is a picturesque mountain village with a population of around 1,300 people, located in the eastern region of the High Tatras mountains, part of the Carpathian mountain range. Though small in size it offers shops, restaurants, bike and ski rental and a local museum.

The whole area is part of ​​the Tatra National Park, part of a cross border UNESCO biosphere reserve. Indigenous animals include the Eurasian brown bear, Eurasian lynx, marten, wolf and fox.

The area offers numerous hiking trails and mountain biking opportunities as well as more technical mountaineering routes and in the winter the village has 5km of ski runs.

The Belianska Cave is 8km from the lodge and is the only accessible cave in the High Tatras. It was first opened to the public in 1882 and has excellent acoustics; it is approximately 3641 m long, and half of it is open to visitors.

The nearby town of Poprad (about 30 km from the lodge) offers naturally heated thermal pools and a wellness complex called Aquacity Poprad.

You could also take a trip to Červený Kláštor (about 50 km from Belianska Chata) if you decide to stay for longer, and take a trip down the Dunajec river or visit the 14th century monastery.

Belianska Chata

This gorgeous newly built lodge is located on the outskirts of Ždiar, just a 5 minute walk from the centre. It is run by Damien and Ivana, a friendly young couple who will be able to tell you all about the area and what to do there.

Beautifully furnished in wood and stone, it offers eight comfortable rooms with two twin beds that can be pushed together for a double. Extra beds are available on request. Each room has a private bathroom with shower, as well as free WiFi but no TV.

A buffet breakfast and home cooked dinner is served in the dining area; special meals for vegetarians and vegans are catered for as are other special dietary requirements.

Guests can also enjoy a dining room with a fireplace and board games. The convivial atmosphere will really make your stay here special.
