Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is an old city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist resorts of the Mediterranean. The city of Dubrovnik was built on maritime trade. Today Dubrovnik is one of Croatia most popular destination for tourists. Dubrovnik is steeped in stunning architecture and sculptural detail and boasts spectacular churches, monasteries, museums, and fountains.

Stradun, Placa
Main stone paved street of the city, the centre of the action, Stradun is a popular street where most of the locals go.

The City Walls: Dubrovnik is completely surrounded with walls and forts, including the Old Port. One of the most outstanding features of Dubrovnik and one of the first things you should do when visiting the city is to walk along the imposing two-kilometre 10th Century wall, built to protect the citizens of the town. The walk takes about an hour.

Franciscian Monastery: Old Town Inside is the Pharmacy dating from the 14th century (the oldest in Europe) and a gorgeous cloister.

Sponza Palace: Old Town Originally built as customs house in 1516. Now it functions as the State Archive. On the ground floor is the Museum of the Dubrovnik defenders.

Rector Palace: Old Town Built in the 15th century for Dubrovnik’s ruler, the elected Rector, now a museum.

Visit the Farmers Market: Every morning local farmers gather in Gundelic Square to sell the fruits of their labor (pun intended). For only a few Kuna, you can purchase everything from sun-ripened figs to jars homemade wine, brandy, and sweet Adriatic honey. This is a great way to kick off your day and find some authentic souvenirs for friends and family.Learn to Love Rakija - This is the local hard liquor of choice, usually made from grapes, walnuts, or plums. It’s served at most café

Cathedral: Old Town This Baroque Cathedral was built in the 18th century after an earthquake destroyed the original. Inside there is a Treasury with a lot of interesting exhibits. St. Blaise church, Old Town Dedicated to Dubrovnik’s patron saint.

Dominican Monastery Gorgeous courtyard with museum housing Dubrovnik’s historical artefacts.

Go island-hopping Dubrovnik is surrounded by the Elafiti Islands – islands housing little fishing villages and summer houses owned by the locals of the city. Sandy beaches and tranquil seas are what lure tourists here, year after year, and there are many different islands to choose from.

Lokrum Island The island is a 15-minute boat ride from the Old Town City harbor. As well as many peaceful coves Lokrum also boasts a Botanical Garden and, keeping with the monastic theme, a Benedictine Monastery. Lopud is an island about 30 minutes by boat from Dubrovnik.

Take the cable car The new cable car takes 4 minutes to get to an altitude of 405 metres, and once at the top, panoramic views of the old town and the surrounding walls of Dubrovnik can be seen. The view is breath-taking, and although the ride is a little scary at first, it is worth it at the top! The highest point above Dubrovnik, it comes complete with breathtaking views.
