Rome was once the capital of the Roman Empire and today is one of the largest European capitals which tourists travel to in their numbers to see the ancient sights for themselves.
Sightseeing in Rome is both exciting and exhausting. The city is best seen by foot, in order to avoid missing any of the thousands of architectural gems. Spanning from basilicas, piazzi, churches, and museums all the way to the Vatican City, seeing all of the sights in Rome could take more than one visit. But during your concert break you're sure to want to see some of it, so why not check out our PDF on the top 10 sights to see (it was hard to narrow it down!).
With numerous festivals beginning during Holy Week, the peak tourist season runs from Easter through to October. During the winter the weather is relatively mild, add the much smaller crowds and it makes the season a great time to visit Rome.

Conductor: Stefano Ranzani/Carlo Donadio

La Traviata, or "the fallen woman", is based on the 1852 play La dame aux Camelias. Initially performed in Venice, the Venice theatre insisted on maintaining a setting in the 1700s, however performances now often reflect modern times. As is often the case with operas, the story revolves around two lovers whose relationship follows no easy path. Violetta and Alfredo fall in love, but Alfredo's father disproves and casts her away for the family's sake. Will the lovers stay apart or are they destined to find each other again?
