The 21st English Alpine Championships kicked off on the 11th of February in the Famous Italian resort in Bormio! It’s the 10th year in a row the Championships have been held in the skiing resort, and it will see hundreds of people of all ages take on various challenges, including the renowned slopes of Stelvio and Stella Alpino. We’re 2 days into the competitions and we’ve already seen some world class action!
Organised by Snowsport England which is trying to develop skiing in England, the Championships now have 6 categories: Senior, Junior, U16, U14, U12 and U10. This means that junior skiers are competing on the same slopes as senior athletes. Despite the difference in ages and capabilities, all are battling it out to be crowned English Champions. The English Alpine Championships continue to feature the rising stars of Alpine skiing in England and today’s race (Monday 13th Feb) will see the FIS Slalom on Stelvio and the U14/16 Slalom on Alpina.
The Championships opened with a fantastic opening parade on Saturday in the Centre of Bormio, Tuesday will see the popular Team Parallel Slalom and the FIS Alpine combined race, which debuted last year, will take on Wednesday.
