Our top 5 last-minute family activity breaks

August 22, 2016

Summer 2016 is nearly coming to a close so if you didn’t manage to get away this season, but would love a little glimmer of activity before the family return to school and the countdown to Christmas, then why not consider our last-minute activity breaks? While July and August are the dominant summer break months, plenty of our active holidays have availability (and good weather!) until October time when we switch onto full ski mode! As well as benefitting from cheaper flights and quieter cities, it’ll make the coming autumn seem all the more bearable for your whole family.

Multi-activity in Middle Croatia

If your kids are often complaining that they’re bored, then satisfy their thrill-seeking side with our multi-activity holiday in Karlovac. This package is available until the end of October and includes a jeep safari and rafting! You can also spend time bonding as a family with bike hire for 1 day where you’ll be provided with routes to take at your own leisure together. It might be a bit colder than Croatia’s beautiful summers but this could help when taking an activity break with kids in stopping them from getting warm, dehydrated and agitated. The location is also only around one hour from Zagreb Airport so you don’t have to worry about how to keep everyone entertained until your arrival at the hotel. In the evenings though, if everyone isn’t tired from an active day, there are activities at the accommodation including table tennis, mini bowling and mini golf to get pass the time.

London city break with Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Are your family Harry Potter mad with fights breaking out at dinner over who’s in what house? If it all sounds a bit familiar, then you might all enjoy a short weekend break to London to take in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Fans of the books and film will be amazed at all the authentic props on show and it’s easy to whittle away nearly a full day exploring all the exhibits in depth, and of course getting some memorable photo opportunities to take home with you! If you’re lucky, you may even have nabbed tickets to see Cursed Child and so can make this a totally magical weekend break as a family! London as a city has so much to do, and it’s now more accessible than ever from most parts of the UK & Ireland meaning flights during non-peak seasons will be affordable and travel time kept to a minimum.

Family holiday in Valmorel, France

This holiday is ideal for families who are seeking an activity break that lets them taste a variety of different things. The five activities included are a Parcours adventure park, rafting, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking or horse riding. Whatever your kids’ active interests, there’s bound to be at least a few days that will give them something to boast about to their friends! You’ll stay in a beautiful chalet in the French countryside which will also allow your family to make new friends with others staying in the same accommodation. Temperatures do start to fall after September, but again this shouldn’t affect your activity holiday too much.

Mini cowboy adventure in Croatia

If you have children who wish they were cowboys living in the Wild West, then our cowboy ranch break is for your family! While Croatia might not be exactly where you picture these kinds of lifestyles, you’ll get to stay in a tepee or mountain cottage for your short break and even experience a horse-drawn wagon ride and traditional camp-fire dinner! For those who like horse riding, this holiday is ideal as you’ll also get a horse-riding lesson and get to try a horse painting party. For water-lovers, you’ll get to canoe down the Lika River canyon! Even if it rains during your stay, this will add to the authentic experience, especially for those staying in a tepee who can fall asleep listening to the rain hitting the canvas and feeling cosy away inside.

Sea kayaking in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a beautiful city that anyone can enjoy but for those who like to keep active and love the sea, our kayaking break will let you explore further than usual. Over a week, you and your family will explore around the coast of the walled city and the Elafiti Islands. If your family are Game of Thrones fans, then you’ll recognise many of these places from HBO’s hit series too! Departures for this are every Saturday until the end of October and are often in groups larger than your family so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to meet new friends. Everyone will also have spent nearly a full week out on kayaks and so you can head home feeling closer than ever having learnt a new skill together!

While some of these are on request, due to the nature of last-minute bookings, don’t hesitate to contact us at and see what we can offer you! Just let us know your family size, ages of children and what your interests are and dates of travel and we can help find the ideal activity break for you.
