The Alpe Adria Trail connects the Carinthia region of Austria with western Slovenia and Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Starting from the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner, it continues on through Slovenia and Italy until reaching its final destination of Muggia/Trieste on the Adriatic sea. The trail covers a total of 43 stages across a variety of terrain.

This particular walking tour covers part of the Italy/Slovenia border where many crucial WW1 battles took place along what historians call the Isonzo Front close to the Isonzo river (Soča river in Slovenian). Twelve consecutive battles were fought in the area between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops between 1915 and 1917, the final one known as the Battle of Caporetto, when the Italians suffered a terrible defeat. On this walking tour you will see first hand how the geography of the area influenced the outcome and learn more about the history of the area.

You will stay in hotels along the route in Tolmin (Slovenia), Tribil Superiore (Italy) and Cividale del Friuli (Italy) with half board (breakfast and dinner).
