Montenegro's star has been on the rise for the past few years, with this tiny country (pop. just over 600,000 people, and smaller than Wales) attracting visitors from around the world, thanks to its combination of idyllic Mediterranean beaches, historic towns and cities and beautiful National Parks.

From the capital Kotor on the coast to the rugged Durmitor mountains to the north, there is a lot to see and do here, especially if you love the outdoors, with some of the most spectacular wilderness you will find in Europe.

The Durmitor National Park offers dense pine forest, glacial lakes, alpine meadows and the deepest gorge in Europe thanks to the River Tara. Hiking, kayaking, rafting, canyoning and mountain biking are just some of the activities on offer here in the summer, while skiing draws people here in the winter months.

You will be based in the village of Zabljak in the heart of the park, a small village of 1,700 people, at 1,450m above sea level and a strategic location for exploring the Durmitor area. Expect warm hospitality and some hearty dinners here!

You will stay at a 3* guest house or bungalow in the small village of Zabljak in Northern Montenegro.
