The Zell am See - Kaprun ski area now offers 5 different resorts on one ski pass - Kaprun, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, Zell am See and from this winter Saalbach Hinterglemm and Leogang Fieberbrunn. The main areas are divided between Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn, and just down the road Zell am See which has a brand new link to Saalbach.

The Maiskogel area at Kaprun offers 20 km of wide, easy slopes ideal for beginners and families, as well as a year round toboggan run. From winter 2019-20 it will be linked by a brand new cable car to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier which offers 41 km of slopes from 1,978 to 3,029 m above sea level and is open for skiing for most of the year (generally from October to July) making it very snow sure in winter.

There are lots of wide slopes suitable for beginners, as well as some tricky black slopes for expert skiers, like the infamous Black Mamba with its leg burning maximum gradient of 63%. There are also dedicated freeride zones, a 1 km fun slope known as the ‘Eagle Line’ and an excellent snow park with superpipe as well as a cross-country track.

You can enjoy the view from the highest viewing platform in the Salzburg area at Gipfelwelt 3000 which also offers a National Park gallery and cinema showing a 10-minute film all about the area and an excellent panoramic restaurant.

The Schmittenhöhe area above Zell am See offers 77 km of slopes perfect for intermediate skiers, with a couple of challenging black runs and an XXL fun slope for the kids. The brand new link to Saalbach means that those looking for mileage won't be disappointed with over 400km of slopes to choose from in total.

The state-of-the-art lift system throughout the area ensures that there is little queuing despite the popularity of the area with skiers from around Europe.

Après ski

Austrian après ski at its finest, the three resorts offer lots of lively bars on and off the piste, so if you like dancing until the small hours in your ski boots, there are plenty of opportunities here. While Zell is the larger resort and offers more choice, there are also plenty of places to seek out in Kaprun.
