Itinerary

Day One:
Arrival and check in

Day Two:
Morning: Head to the activity centre in the morning for the river walking excursion along the river bed. This is a gentle, undemanding activity exploring the shallow parts of the river on foot.
Afternoon: After lunch head out with your guide for an easy 2-hour mountain biking excursion around the local area, through thick woodland and abandoned villages.

Day Three:
A full day of rafting along the Lao river. A fun 7-hour excursion through the beautiful Lao canyon, past waterfalls and lush vegetation. Level II-III rapids so fairly easygoing with some more demanding passages. A stop for lunch next to the river, maybe a spot of swimming, and it's back on the water for the afternoon.

Day Four:
Set off in the morning on a wonderfully scenic hike with views of some of the highest peaks in the park. Takes around 5 hours with a packed lunch stop.

Day Five:
Check out and departure

Extras/Upgrades

This package can be fully customised, just let us know the number of nights you wish to stay and your chosen activities and we can send you a tailor-made quote. Other activities available include packrafting, canyoning, river tubing, and tandem paragliding flights. Overnight rafting and hiking excursions with camping are also possible.

The Pollino National Park is the largest in Italy, straddling the southern regions of Calabria and Basilicata.

Located at the southern tip of the Appenine mountain chain, the park is criss-crossed by five rivers that have formed deep gorges and wide valleys. The resulting variety of terrain includes large beech and pine forests, high mountain pastures, rocky outcrops and mountain peaks that are covered in snow for much of the year. Waterfalls, hidden grottos and thermal springs abound.

The area is popular with hikers and mountain bikers, and the rivers offer a wealth of adventure sports like white water rafting, canyoning and kayaking.

When you aren’t exploring the hiking trails or taking on the river rapids, there are plenty of sites to visit, like the nearby town of Laino Castello with its beautifully preserved centre, the Grotta del Romito, a limestone cave with stone age engravings, and the Santuario della Madonna di Costantinopoli carved into the side of a cliff.

If you want to explore further the seaside is just under an hour away, or if you plan to continue your travels then the Amalfi coast or Matera are around 2 hours’ drive away.

You will stay at a B&B or agriturismo in or near Laino Borgo. The accommodation is carefully selected for quality and you will have a room with private bathroom.

Alternatively, it is possible to stay on site at the activity centre in a tent or suspended tent, though you will be eating at local restaurants and osterias, not on site.

Nearest Airport: Lamezia Terme 175km (just under 2 hours); Naples 200km (just over 2 hours)

By Car:

From Naples take the E45 road for just over 200km and take exit Laino Borgo. Follow Contrada Armentano to the village of Laino Borgo.

From Lamezia Terme take the E45 north towards exit Laino Borgo.

By Public Transport:

Public transport in the area can be tricky so we advise hiring a car.

By Private Transfer:

Taxi available outside airport. Private transfer available on request after main booking.
