Itinerary

Possible itinerary:

Day 1:
Individual arrival to Tarvisio. Free time to visit this town, its surroundings and the town centre's shops, restaurants etc. Check-in to hotel with dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2:
Breakfast in hotel. Bike rental. Departure by bike to Villach (Austria - 40km); following the Gail river on cycle lanes, you will cross the old border on the old railway line and reach the cosy town of Villach. Free time; return by bike to Tarvisio. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3:
Breakfast in hotel. Discover the surrounding of Tarvisio by bike. Possible trip to breathtaking Fusine Lakes and Slovenia (11km from Tarvisio), or rest day on top of Mount Lussari, famous for its sanctuary. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 4:
Breakfast in hotel. Departure by bike to Venzone/Gemona del Friuli (60km); following the old railway line you will discover breathtaking landscapes of the Eastern Alps along the Canal del Ferro (the Iron Valley); arrival in Venzone/Gemona - both medieval towns which had been destroyed after an earthquake in late 1976 and completely restored. Check-in to hotel where your luggage has already been delivered to the room. Free time to visit the town. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 5:
Breakfast in hotel. Departure by bike to Udine (45km); following secondary roads or gravel country roads (if equipped with mountain bikes) through the countryside of central Friuli, admiring rural landscapes to reach Udine, capital of Friuli. Check-in to hotel where your luggage has already been delivered to the room. Free time to visit the town centre and its Venetian-style monuments and castle. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 6:
Breakfast in hotel. Departure by bike to Grado (50km); following secondary roads to Cervignano and then to Grado on cycle lanes, reaching the "pearl" of the Adriatic towns, an isle famous for its spa and curative sand as well as its fish cuisine. Check-in to hotel where your luggage has already been delivered to the room. Free time to visit the town centre. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 7:
Breakfast in hotel. Free day to discover the beauty of the Adriatic Sea at the beach or cycle to the Roman masterpieces of Aquileia - the old capital of the Roman Empire and home to the Patriarch of the Old Roman Church. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 8:
Breakfast in hotel and check-out. Return of hired bicycles and individual transfer back to Tarvisio/Airport.

Alpe Adria Trail

The Alpe Adria Trail connects the Carinthia region of Austria with Slovenia and Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The trail contains 43 different stages allowing walkers to really experience the natural landscape of these beautiful spots. From the highest mountain in Austria at the Grossglockner, this trail follows through Slovenia and Italy until reaching its final spot of Muggia/Trieste. Those who enjoy active breaks will delight in any cycling holiday along the trail as it offers sights totally unspoiled of normal tourist footfall and bustle. Each of the stages is set beforehand ensuring suitable accommodation and eating options at the start and finish.
