ITINERARY
Day 1: Tarvisio - Fusine Lakes
Start from Tarvisio and make your way to the beautiful area around the Fusine Lakes with their crystal clear water. This stage is mainly uphill, though fairly gentle until then end.

Day 2: Fusine Lakes - Kranjska Gora
Cross the border into Slovenia to the famous mountain resort of Kranjska Gora, on the ski world cup circuit. After a slight uphill start there is a longer descent then the terrain is fairly flat. If you have time stop off at the Zelenci nature reserve full of interesting flora and fauna.

Day 3: Kranjska Gora - Baumgartnerhöhe
Another border crossing, this time uphill into Austria, enjoy the fantastic panoramic views from the top then head downhill to Baumgartnerhöhe overlooking Lake Faak. People with a fear of heights might find this stage a little tricky around Trupejevo poldne.

Day 4: Baumgartnerhöhe - Villach
A much easier day today, mainly downhill, starting at Lake Faak, past Finkenstein Castle and through the village of Faak am See, continuing on through some picturesque wooded countryside before reaching the River Gail, which you will follow to Villach. After you check into your hotel you might like to head to the Kärnten Therme spa, ideal for soothing aching legs.

Day 5: Villach - Warmbad - Feistritz
This stage is mainly flat, head along the Römerweg (Roman Way) to Federaun where some people like to make a small detour to visit the ruins of the eponymous castle. You will reach the Gail valley floor, though the trail is flat you can enjoy the views of the towering mountain slopes to either side, continue on to Feistritz.

Day 6: Feistritz an der Gail - Valbruna
The longest stage in this tour, head uphill to cross the Italian border, and back downhill into the Valley, through the village of Camporosso, and on to Valbruna.

Day 7: Valbruna - Monte Lussari - Tarvisio
Head uphill to Mount Lussari, with its charming hamlet and church at 1790m and back down to the ski resort of Tarvisio at 754m.

LOCATION
The Alpe Adria Trail connects the Carinthia region of Austria with western Slovenia and Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Starting from the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner, it continues on through Slovenia and Italy until reaching its final destination of Muggia/Trieste on the Adriatic sea. The trail covers a total of 43 stages across a variety of terrain. This short walking holiday covers the border area where the three countries meet, from Tarvisio in Italy, through Kranjska Gora in Slovenia, into Villach in Austria to name but a few stops, with a private transfer back to the starting point of your tour. You will experience a real mix of local cultures and languages reflected in the cuisine and traditions of the area. Highlights include Borgo Lussari, a tiny, picturesque hamlet on Mount Lussari and the stunning Lake Fusine in Italy, and the gorgeous city of Villach in Austria.
