The Salento region located in the southern part of Italy’s Puglia, is a stunning destination known for its beautiful coastline, charming villages, and rich history. A bike tour through Salento offers a unique way to explore its treasures. Ride through the historic village of Acaya, with its Renaissance charm and ancient castle, and continue to Acquarica, a peaceful village deeply connected to Apulia’s agricultural roots. Pedal to Otranto, a seaside town with narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, and the impressive Otranto Cathedral, home to stunning mosaics. Finally, explore Gallipoli, a coastal gem with crystal-clear waters and a picturesque old town. This bike tour lets you experience the natural beauty, culture, and history of Salento in an unforgettable way.
Day 1 - WELCOME TO APULIA A private group transfer is included today from Bari airport to Masseria Rauccio in the Salento area, south to Lecce. Bike fitting and short warm up ride in the afternoon followed by a relaxing yoga session. Dinner is included all together at the masseria Accommodation: Masseria Rauccio or similar Day 2 - Vanze, Acaya and Acquarica Miles/kilometers: 20/34 Elevation gain feet/meters: 490/150 Our day begins with a refreshing morning yoga session, followed by a wholesome breakfast to fuel our first bike ride. We visit the charming village of Vanze, offering a glimpse into rural life, and continue to Acaya, a fortified village with a Renaissance atmosphere, complete with a historic castle. The ride then takes us to Acquarica, a village known for its agricultural roots. As we bike through rolling terrain, ancient olive trees, and traditional stone walls, we soak in the beauty of Apulia’s countryside. After returning to the masseria, enjoy a second yoga session with Sharon, followed by a delightful dinner. Meals: Breakfast included Accommodation: Masseria Rauccio Day 3 - Otranto Miles/kilometers: 25/41 Total elevation gain feet/meters: 800/246 After our usual morning yoga session and breakfast, we’ll ride from the Masseria to the historic seaside town of Otranto, passing through olive groves, countryside, and traditional stone walls. As we approach Otranto, the view of the Adriatic Sea enhances the charm of the town. In Otranto, explore the old town’s narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, and the Otranto Cathedral with its beautiful mosaics and historical artifacts. The waterfront offers a perfect break to soak in the lively atmosphere. The return journey takes a peaceful route back to the masseria, where we can unwind with an evening yoga session. Dinner is included, served outside the masseria. Meals: Breakfast and dinner are included. Accommodation: Masseria Rauccio Day 4 - Gallipoli to the Masseria Miles/kilometers: 32/54 Total elevation gain feet/meters: 1056/322 The ride of today includes an headstart shuttle to the West coast of the Salento peninsula: we’ll start biking from Gallipoli, the pearl of the Ionian sea, back to the masseria. As you leave the coast, the route transitions into the quiet, rolling terrain of inland Apulia, characterized by sprawling olive groves, traditional stone walls, and ancient farmhouses. The journey takes you through charming villages, each offering a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage and slower pace of life. Along the way, you’ll experience the essence of Salento’s rural beauty, with its warm, earthy tones and fragrant Mediterranean vegetation. Meals: Breakfast is included: Accommodation: Masseria Rauccio Day 5 - Cooking class and lunch at Paola’s farm Miles/kilometers: 16/26 Total elevation gain meters: 426/130 Day 5 begins with the familiar rhythm of a rejuvenating morning yoga session led by Sharon,setting a peaceful and energizing tone for the day ahead.Following yoga, we’ll embark on a gentle bike ride through the serene Apulian countryside,making our way to a nearby masseria. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the region’s culinarytraditions with a hands-on cooking class, learning to prepare authentic local dishes.Afterward, sit back and savor the fruits of your labor with a delicious lunch, celebrating therich flavors of Apulia.In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy a leisurely ride back to our masseria, soaking in the tranquillandscapes along the way. The day concludes with a calming evening yoga session withSharon, offering the perfect opportunity to unwind and reflect on the experiences of theday. Meals: Breakfast , cooking class and lunch are included Accommodation: Masseria RauccioDay Day 6 - Coastal ride and yoga bliss Miles/kilometers: 30/49 Total elevation gain: 1575/480 The final day of the retreat offers a stunning coastal adventure, beginning andending with the usual rejuvenating yoga sessions led by Sharon. After the morning yoga practice, we’ll set out on a beautiful bike ride along thecoastline from Otranto to a charming tiny port, where the serene Mediterraneanviews and fresh sea breeze create an unforgettable experience. The route is bothscenic and invigorating, showcasing the natural beauty of Apulia’s coast.We’ll return to Otranto and make our way back to the masseria, where in theafternoon we’ll have a fun pizza making and farewell group dinner, the day concludeswith a soothing evening yoga session, providing the perfect closure to a memorableretreat. Meals: Breakfast and dinner are included Accommodation: Masseria RauccioDay Day 7 - ARRIVEDERCI TIME TO GO Breakfast and group transfer to Bari airport. End of services. Meals: Breakfast is included.
