LOCATION
A tiny village of around 500 people close to the Slovenian border, Ribnik is off the tourist trail and with few hotels in the area is the ideal place to get away from it all. Surrounded by hills and woodland it also offers excellent fishing in the local river Kupa, as well as a beach on the riverbank to relax on. Other popular pastimes include hiking and cycling, there are a number of trails in the area. Local places of interest include the Plitvice Lakes National Park and the nearby towns of Karlovac and Osijek. The local cuisine is excellent, including many lamb and squid dishes. Local dishes include burek (a savoury pasty) and brodet (fish stew), two unique dishes you are unlikely to find anywhere else. Baklava is also very popular here as it is all around the Balkans. The local beer is Karlovacko and is available everywhere as is the local tipple 'Pelinkovac' (juniper spirit). Local wines include Malvazija from Istria and Prosek from Dalmatia.
