Since 2006, Andrea Bocelli’s concerts in Lajatico have turned the natural setting of Teatro del Silenzio into a different artistic world for each edition. This article is the historical route through those changing themes. It is not a forecast of the repertoire, guests or stage design for 2027.

How the Lajatico tradition began
Architect and artistic director Alberto Bartalini saw the countryside outside Lajatico as a theatre made by nature. He shared the idea with Andrea Bocelli in 2005, and the first performance followed on 27 July 2006. The venue’s official history describes a natural amphitheatre built around a small rural lake, with temporary event infrastructure that is removed after the performance.
This is why the place and the concert cannot be separated. Bocelli was born and raised in this landscape; the annual event brings an international audience to his home territory and then allows the site to return to silence.

Memorable editions from the official archive
2006 — Dedicato al Grande Assente
The inaugural concert was titled Dedicato al Grande Assente. Igor Mitoraj’s Il Grande Sonno formed the central artwork, establishing from the first edition the dialogue between music, sculpture and landscape.
2007 — the concert of Bocelli’s best-known songs
The second edition was presented as the first live performance bringing together Bocelli’s greatest successes. Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Il Grande Sole provided the visual focus. It showed that the venue could move from the commemorative character of the opening year to a concert built around a different musical identity.
2010 — Stelle
The 2010 edition was called Stelle, with a work of the same title by Kurt Laurenz Metzler. The official archive’s pairing of each edition with a named artwork makes clear that the setting is not a fixed backdrop: its visual language changes with the year.
2016 — Le Cirque
Le Cirque in 2016 used Marco Lodola’s Circo Lodola and direction by Luca Tommassini. It is one example of how the Lajatico stage has expanded beyond a conventional recital into a theatrical production with its own visual theme.
2018 — Andrea Chénier
In 2018 the programme became a full opera: Umberto Giordano’s Andrea Chénier. Gualtiero Vanelli’s Cubic Vision and direction by Stefano Trespidi gave this edition a distinct operatic identity. A full-opera year should be remembered as history, not used to assume what a future edition will contain.
2019 — Ali di Libertà
The 2019 edition was titled Ali di Libertà, directed by Luca Tommassini. Its official gallery documents another complete transformation of the open-air stage.
2022 — Infinito
After the disruption of the pandemic period, the official archive records the 2022 edition as Infinito, with artistic direction by Alberto Bartalini.
2023 — Mariposa
The 2023 edition took the title Mariposa. The archive again presents the year as its own artistic chapter rather than a repeatable standard format.
2024 — The Celebration
The Celebration – 30th Anniversary marked Bocelli’s 30-year career milestone. ActivityBreaks also has a separate article dedicated to the 2024 edition.
What this history tells a future visitor
The pattern is variety. Some years centre on familiar songs, others on an opera or a strongly theatrical concept. The artwork and stage identity change too. That history explains the appeal of returning to Lajatico, but it does not confirm what will happen in 2027.
Archive photographs should be captioned with their edition when known. They are evidence of a past performance, not a seating guide or a preview of a future production.
The next chapter: 2027
The organiser lists concerts on 22 and 24 July 2027 at 8:30 pm. The programme and guest artists are to be announced separately. ActivityBreaks uses different three-night stays for the two performances: 21–24 July and 23–26 July.
