Itinerary

Day One:
Arrival in Salerno. Try to make sure you have enough time to explore this lovely city with its impressive cathedral and botanic gardens, as well as the seafront promenade.
Overnight in Salerno

Day Two: Salerno – Vietri sul Mare - 5km
Today you will have a short private transfer to Vietri sul Mare, famous for its beautiful handmade ceramics. From here you will take a circular walk up the coast and back down to Vietri and its long beach, enjoying the wonderful views and sea breeze and exploring the many interesting villages and hamlets along the way.
Overnight in Vietri sul Mare

Day Three: Sentiero dei Limoni (the lemon path) - 6km
Take a short bus ride to the start of today’s route, the famously beautiful path through the historic lemon groves between the coastal towns of Maiori and Minori. It starts with a steep descent along the old aqueduct and into Maiori, then continues inland across to the charming town of Minori.
Overnight in Minori

Day Four: Minori – Ravello – Amalfi - 10 km
From Minori a long uphill stretch takes you to the town of Ravello perched high on the cliffs overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Take a wander around the beautiful town and don’t miss the magnificent Villa Cimbrone Gardens where you can enjoy perhaps one of the best views over the Amalfi coast. Continue along down the coast through ancient fortifications and along cliffside paths down into Amalfi.
Overnight in Amalfi

Day Five: Amalfi – Algerola - 9 km
An uphill start from Amalfi to Pogerola along a shady flight of steps through a chestnut grove. From there take a mountain path through Valle delle Ferriere towards Mount Murillo, followed by a steep set of stairs downhill to the small village of San Lazzaro di Agerola. From there take the public bus back to Amalfi.
Overnight in Amalfi

Day Six: il Sentiero degli Dei – 14 km
Take the public bus to Boerano near Agerola. Today you will discover the most famous trail on the Amalfi Coast, known as ‘the path of the gods’ due to its spectacular coastal views. The path leads down to the village of Nocelle, just outside Positano. Enjoy the rest of your day exploring the delightful resort of Positano before getting the bus back to Amalfi.
Overnight in Amalfi and end of tour

Please Note

Though the distance covered on foot each day is just 5-14 km, the Amalfi coast has a lot of uneven terrain and hilly sections, so a reasonably good level of fitness is nonetheless required. Take a good pair of walking shoes, sun protection and a waterproof jacket in case of bad weather.

The Amalfi Coast is up there on every traveller’s Italian checklist. Its picture-perfect coastline is made up of steep cliffs thick with vegetation and lemon groves interspersed with multi-coloured fishing villages and chic seaside resorts cascading down the hillside to the Mediterranean Sea.

Though many are drawn to its crowded beaches in the summer, the area has long been popular with hikers who like to explore the endless steps and old mule tracks that used to be the only land connections between villages. Trails like the ‘Sentiero degli Dei’ (‘Path of the Gods) and the ‘Sentiero dei Limoni’ (‘the Lemon trail’) offer breathtaking views over this famous stretch of coastline – a head for heights is necessary at some points where the path is particularly exposed. Though you will only be walking for 5-10 kms per day the going can be quite intense at points as the terrain is rarely flat.

This break is a great way to see some of the highlights of the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi) as well as some of the smaller villages and hamlets off the tourist trail. Take a refreshing dip in the sea after a day exploring the hiking trails and, it goes without saying, eat your fill of the Neapolitan pizza, homemade pasta and freshly-caught seafood.

You will be staying at 3* hotels and B&Bs along the route, breakfast included.
