The Costa Daurada, one hour south of Barcelona in the Catalonia region of Spain, is an increasingly popular destination for road cyclists, thanks to its climate, landscape and well-paved and practically empty roads. Many professional teams come to train here pre-season and a lot of hotels have taken notice, resulting in cycling facilities springing up along the coast and inland.

There are over 2,000km of roads in the area, with routes for all levels, so if you're looking to clock up mileage or hit some challenging hill climbs there will be something for you – see the pdf under overview for some of the routes in the area. Don't miss the beautiful Priorat area, home to the Montsant Natural Park with its stunning mountain views, picturesque villages and excellent wines - you can even stop off at a wine cellar en-route to try some.

Cambrils itself is a bustling beach town popular with French and Spanish tourists. The town offers some lovely blue flag sandy beaches and excellent dining options including 2 Michelin starred restaurants.

The area is in the province of Tarragona, and a trip to this costal Roman town just 20 minutes from Cambrils is highly recommended, with its well preserved Roman ruins, imposing cathedral and lively bars and restaurants.

Another underrated gem is the city of Reus. Many people arrive at the airport and leave for the coast but this city, birthplace of celebrated Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, is a fascinating place to explore. Home to the ‘Modernist route’ there is a wealth of modernist architecture to discover, the highlight being the wonderful Casa Navas – a house designed and built for a family of wealthy local merchants overlooking the market square. You can only visit by private guided tour, which you can book at the tourist information office opposite.

If you would like to organise a tour staying at different locations inland rather than basing yourself on the coast, just let us know and we can prepare an itinerary for you.
