Ski Breaks in Bulgaria

Bulgaria has been a well-known destination for budget ski holidays for years, and this is still very much the case.  With lots of investment in recent years, many of the larger resorts have updated their lift facilities and snow making. Prices remain low, making this destination great value for money. Going out is also excellent value, with restaurants and bars on and off the mountain costing much less than their western European counterparts.

Our Bulgaria ski packages in Bansko and Borovets include ski pass, ski hire and airport transfers, for great value flexible ski breaks.

Flights to Bulgaria

Our packages don’t include flights, meaning you have greater choice and flexibility when booking your holiday. Low cost airlines that fly to Sofia include Easy Jet, Ryanair and Wizz Air. Borovets is the nearest ski resort at just under 1 ½ hours transfer time, while Bansko is just over 2 hours away.

Ski school

You can book 3 days of collective ski lessons as an optional extra when you book or ask us for a quote for extra days specifying if you would prefer group or one-to-one tuition. As with everything in Bulgaria, ski school is very good value when compared to French and Austrian resorts, and the level of English spoken is generally pretty good. Alternatively, you can organise an hour or two of tuition in resort to brush up on your skills if you’re feeling rusty!

Accommodation

Our Bulgaria ski packages include accommodation at good quality 3* hotels. To provide maximum availability and value, we do not offer one particular hotel - the name of your hotel will be confirmed after booking. If you have any requests concerning your accommodation, please drop us a line before you book.

Currency

Though Bulgaria is an EU member state, the currency used is the Lev, which is pegged to the Euro. One Bulgarian Lev is worth around € 0.50. Though credit cards are obviously widely accepted it is always worth carrying a little cash which you can withdraw from any cash point at the airport or in resort, or exchange at the airport, your hotel, or the nearest bank (the latter being probably the cheapest option).

Eating and drinking

Our Bulgaria ski breaks include breakfast, so you are free to explore the various dining options around the resort. Eating out is incredible value here, and you will find everything from local cuisine at the ‘Mehanas’ (traditional Bulgarian taverns) to international restaurants. Drinks are also pretty cheap and both Borovets and Bansko offer lively après ski.

Nearby places of interest

Bansko is surrounded by hot springs, which are a great way to unwind and soothe those aching muscles after a day on the slopes. The nearby town of Banya offers a number of spa hotels where you can go for a soak in the afternoon.

Sofia is an intriguing city full of elaborate domed churches and Soviet-era architecture. If you want to add an extra night to your ski break in Bulgaria’s capital city, then let us know.
